Adam Castricum

Adam is a Sport and Exercise Physician at Axis Sports Medicine in Queenstown, where he has practiced since moving across the Tasman from Melbourne with his young family in 2021.

Over a 20-year career spanning elite, high performance sport and clinical medicine, Adam has served as Chief Medical Officer for Athletics Australia, led the medical team at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, was part of the Hawthorn Football Club medical team during the 2014 and 2015 AFL Premierships, and served as President of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians. He holds fellowship with ACSEP, a Master of Sports Medicine by Research, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Beyond clinical practice, Adam has been a strong advocate for doctor mental health and wellbeing, equitable access to healthcare, Indigenous health outcomes, and preventive medicine in regional communities. He actively teaches and mentors registrars and prospective trainees across Australia and New Zealand. His current clinical focus is on injury and osteoarthritis management, and exercise as medicine - helping as many people across the Wakatipu community stay active and healthy at every stage of life.

Adam and his wife Sophie have three children who will start entering Wakatipu High School next year. He joined the WHS Foundation because he believes the school sits at the heart of this community, and that every student deserves access to the opportunities and resources that make WHS exceptional, helping prepare them for the fast-changing future ahead of them.

Outside the clinic, Adam can be found out running on a trail, skiing, mountain biking, hitting a ball, or trying to keep up with his kids on whatever the mountains or basin has on offer.
